Open Hand Atlanta raises $540,000 during annual Party in the Kitchen fundraiser
Local organization provides access to home-delivered, health-promoting meals as well as nutrition education to Atlantans in need
ATLANTA (October 24, 2019) – Atlantans enjoyed an evening of fine fare and hand-crafted cocktails during Open Hand Atlanta’s 16th annual Party in the Kitchen fundraiser on September 26. The signature benefit raised a total of $540,000 to support the nonprofit’s programs which provide access to home-delivered, health-promoting meals as well as nutrition education to Atlantans living with or disabled by chronic disease, homebound seniors and at-risk youth and families.
“It’s always so uplifting to see the community come together each year to support Open Hand,” said Executive Director Matt Pieper. “Through everyone’s generous donations, we’re able to continue to grow and improve our programs that help Atlantans in need each year.”
Chef Chairs Kevin Rathbun and Gerry Klaskala, along with Co-Chairs Nan Street and Carmen Titelman, led a spectacular evening honoring Open Hand Atlanta’s long-time supporters Mary and Jay Williams. Attendees had the opportunity to mix and mingle with local chefs and try dishes from more than 20 of Atlanta’s finest restaurants, including Aria, Rathbun’s, Local Three Kitchen & Bar, The General Muir and Osteria Mattone.
The live auction included several one-of-a-kind experiences, such as exclusive in-home dinners prepared by renowned chefs Kevin Rathbun and Gerry Klaskala, a getaway to Alys Beach and a weekend of fishing, dining and relaxing on St. Simons Island. Silent auction highlights included artwork by Steve Penley, chef table dining experiences, beach vacations and more.
Proceeds from Party in the Kitchen help the organization and its thousands of volunteers continue to prepare, pack and deliver over 5,000 healthy meals every day to the most vulnerable populations across 19 north Georgia counties.
